To celebrate Black History Month and in connection with our ongoing commitment to diversity and equality, Neal Gerber Eisenberg is proud to welcome filmmaker Bennett Singer to our offices in February for a screening of his award-winning film “Brother Outsider” and post-movie discussion. We hope you can join us.

This moving documentary chronicles the life of Bayard Rustin, an adviser to Martin Luther King, Jr. and tireless activist who was the chief organizer of the 1963 March on Washington, one of the largest nonviolent protests in U.S. history. Despite his achievements, Rustin’s work has been widely forgotten by history, largely because he was silenced, threatened, arrested, beaten, imprisoned and fired from important leadership positions for being openly gay in the 1960s. The film chronicles Rustin’s activism for peace, racial equality, economic justice and human rights. It has been screened at The United Nations and for members of Congress, as well as at schools, community forums, labor gatherings, faith organizations and film festivals.

Immediately following the screening, Singer, along with Rustin’s long-time partner, Walter Naegle, will lead a discussion and Q&A session about the film, its lessons for battling discrimination and homophobia in the workplace and legal community. We are honored to share this film, the timeless message and what is sure to be a meaningful discussion with clients and friends of the firm.

Evening Agenda:

4:00 – Screening of Brother Outsider
5:00 – Interactive discussion with Bennett Singer and Walter Naegle
6:00 – Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and ongoing discussion

This program has been approved for 2 Illinois CLE Professional Responsibility credit hours.
