Kenneth L. Harris chairs Neal Gerber Eisenberg’s Tax Practice Group and is a member of its Private Wealth Services Practice Group. Ken is also a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Ken concentrates on the federal income tax aspects of corporate divestitures and acquisitions, partnership transactions and tax planning strategies. He advises Fortune 500 companies in structuring tax-free reorganizations, spin-off transactions, partnerships and LLC joint venture agreements and cross border investments. He also provides legal counsel to mid-sized companies and entrepreneurial concerns, in all aspects of tax planning.
Ken is co-author of Standards of Tax Practice (6th Ed. 2004), a leading treatise in the field of tax ethics. He has written extensively on topics including corporate acquisitions, limited liability companies, international tax planning and tax procedures, and is an adjunct professor of law at the Northwestern University School of Law and IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he teaches courses in tax ethics, international taxation and tax policy.
Ken was elected in 2006 as a Fellow to the American College of Tax Counsel.
Ken is recognized as a leader in the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 editions of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (recommended in “Tax”).
Ken has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America.
Ken earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago in 1985 and his LL.M. from New York University in 1987, where he served as graduate editor of the Tax Law Review. In 1982, he graduated, summa cum laude, and Phi Beta Kappa, from Hamilton College with a B.A.
Ken was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1985.
