Antony J. McShane co-chairs Neal Gerber Eisenberg’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. He focuses his practice in the area of intellectual property counseling and litigation, concentrating on strategic development, protection and enforcement of trademarks, trade dress copyrights and trade secrets and patents.
Tony has represented Fortune 500 companies, emerging technology companies and Internet start-ups in federal and state courts throughout the country, and before administrative tribunals such as the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and the International Trade Commission. Representations include a variety of intellectual property litigation matters involving trademarks, domain names, trade dress, trade secrets, copyrights and false advertising. Tony also manages day-to-day client matters including the registration and protection of trademarks and copyrights, trade secret protection programs and the negotiation and oversight of license, confidentiality and nondisclosure agreements.
Tony is an active member of the International Trademark Association and the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago. He serves as an editor for the Trademark Reporter, published by the International Trademark Association. He speaks frequently before industry and legal groups on trademark and copyright issues, and regularly conducts client seminars on identifying, developing and protecting intellectual property.
Tony has served on the faculty of the International Trademark Association’s Trial Advocacy Workshop, which was sponsored by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and as an adjunct professor at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, where he taught a class on Intellectual Property Strategies for Managers of E-Commerce.
Tony is recognized as a leader in the 2008, 2009 and 2010 editions of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (recommended in “Intellectual Property”).
Tony earned his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law in 1985. In 1982, he graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.A.
Tony was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1985, and has appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the Southern District of New York, the Southern District of Florida, the Northern District of Georgia, the District of Minnesota, the Southern District of Texas, the District of Washington, the District of Oregon, the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of California and the Second, Seventh and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals.
