Michael Harlin Quoted in World IP Review Article "US Patent Bills: Will They Live Up to Their Promises?"

Michael Harlin, partner in the Intellectual Property practice group, was quoted in World Intellectual Property Review's recent article, "US Patent Bills: Will They Live Up to Their Promises?" The article discusses the recently introduced Promoting and Respecting Economically Vital American Innovation Leadership Act (PREVAIL) and The Patent Eligibility Restoration Act (PERA).

In the article, Michael discusses how the PREVAIL Act aims to decrease the success rate of challengers before the PTAB, potentially tilting the balance in favor of patent owners by making significant changes to proceedings. Meanwhile, the PERA initiative seeks to address concerns about patents covering natural laws in various fields like precision medicine and AI, but crafting a technology-neutral standard for patent eligibility remains a challenging task without a perfect balance.
